Marcey! My aunt! A story for breast cancer awareness month!

              Present day 2013

This is my aunt Marnike, everyone calls her “Marcey.” I had to share my aunts story this month because she is a fighter and breast cancer survivor. Her journey started in April of 2007 when she noticed a lump in her left breast at the age of 41. The lump was 1.5 cm and was detected at a stage 4! Her doctor said that she would need chemo therapy but she opted to try a more natural approach of treatment with herbs, oxygen, UBV light, vitamin C, and Iodine through a pick line in her arm. That lasted 9 months until she was urged to start chemo because the cancer was eating her alive. She began to lose hair and weight at a rapid pace. She then began doing chemo in September 2008 every Monday 2-3 hours a day for a total of 12 treatments through a chest port. The port is still in her chest today for precautionary reasons. From day one the cancer has been terminal and she was told she would be fighting the rest of her life. The cancer will never go into remission due to her having both positive and negative cells. Following the breast cancer she has been diagnosed with Pulmonary lung disease, had a total hysterectomy, fought an infection in her blood, under went 3 eye surgeries for her tear ducts, and treatment for a cancerous spot in her lower back. God has truly been good to her. I feel so blessed to still have her around and in my life. Even through all this she has remained optimistic always smiling and joking..never showing how much pain she was really in. She got married in June of 2010 to a wonderful man (Pierre) who has been with her through it all. Her story is inspiring and proves that there is hope after the storm. Present day she is still taking preventive medicine for the cancer. She is outspoken, bold, beautiful, and blessed and I’m so lucky to say she is my aunt!!
